The Sunday following this event, I decided to take Emma and I on an amazing adventure to Colorado.  Our means of travel: Thumbs.  Hitchhiking is amzing and I have proof that with the right people, attitude, and LOVE energy, that this is possible!

We Started about 20 miles outside of Portland on an Orange Sunset upon Interstate 84 at about 6 pm.  Thumbs to the sky , and in no time, the light started to guide our path…

Summer of Love

Hello World.

Summer is Grand.  Fortune and possibilities are inevitable.  Life is what you make it.  For my tribe, life is fun and filled with churning creative juices that in turn, require us to apply self therapy, like river floating, sitting poolside and camping.  This is a bit of what life is like in Portland Oregon in July:)

Sand Lake Sand Dunes, Oregon Coast

Jed and I hit the coast to break ourselves in for warm weather camping, meditation conversation, and general journeyman skills.  We’ve been dotting the coast since we met, 16 moons ago.  We passed thru the village of Tillamook.  Paradise meadows surrounded by coastal mountains are shrouded in mystic fogs and misty clouds that rest atop the fir covered peaks; like mermaids relaxing strewn upon smooth, green sea rocks.

We encountered Sand Lake and found an amazing spot to rest our legs.  Light white and yellow sand dunes, reminiscent of the Sahara desert follow inland from sand cliffs that peer hundreds of feet tall over the magnificent coastline.  Frank Herbert’s novel “Dune” was directly inspired by this coastal area.  Over 100 epic miles that run from here down to Florence, Oregon.

After exploring the coast and greeting the sea that defines the mass of our waterworld, Jedediah and I wandered through a labyrinth of fine sand lined with tall vibrant lime, and evergreen colored grasses.  You can learn so much about yourself and the galaxy with a walk though coastal utopia. Energy flows at the hand of mother nature, free from the mold of judgment and the buzz of concrete streets.  Lovely.

Back to the City…..

Art Night at GreenScene

Hello World, Pevans here.

It’s finally summer in Portland!  It’s 96 degrees out today! YES!  We are all preparing for Oregon Country Fair this weekend.  Everyone is going at it with bead and feather styles to decorate our tribe of upwards of 30 people that are going to the fair together!

Tonight will be monumental for some of these decorations and styles with the quick evolution of my new weekly community event, ART NiGHt.  I started calling it about 8 weeks ago and it has exponentially grown since!  Everyone comes to our pad, (which was previously coined “GreenScene” for its thick green dream carpet, lime green house paint, garden and green herbal tea)  and gets down on whatever craft they can dream up!

Painting, Jewelry, Beads, Sculpting, Stencils, Screenprinting, Frame Making, Origami, Vinyl Cutting, Music Playing, Song Writing, Cooking, Philosophy and so much more is brought to this magical arena every Wednesday, and it’s changing lives in a great way~!

Here are some of the creations that have come out of Art Night so Far!

This is a cutout by local artist Hazel Sikorski!  remember doing fold up and cut snowflakes in grade school?  The cutout below is a defining part of Hazel’s delicate but dramatically epic style…..check it:  (Exacto blade and butcher paper)

Pretty sweet right?!

Below is another great up and coming artist.  My friend Bennet does cosmic color and design.  Reminds me of his style of thinking and metaphysical philosophy.  He started a couple years ago with a compass and a protractor on notebook paper, now look!  Check it:

This is exiting!  I was honored to have very accomplished and skilled local artist Matt Vosburg start showing up a couple weeks back!  Without a doubt a direct inspiration of my work and motivation, this guy is going places!  Below he sketches one out of many T.V. headed space people for an ever evolving series he created, check it!

For more of Vosburg’s amazing art go to:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/Matt%20Vosburg

Below is an example of astounding creativity and refined skill by a man you will instantly want to get to know and talk to just by his glow and personality.  Daniel Sikorski (Owner of the Po House, best cajun/creole food in town, 44th and Hawthorne)

He asked me for some old newspaper and started with a motorcycle helmet, some cardboard for structure, and a roll of white duct tape.  It looks like a giant tiki head! It’s a sweet mask!  He did this in under an hour, seriously!  check it:

Here is the finished mask….

There’s more than just canvas and paper getting decorated, below you can see two different art forms that grace Art Night here at the GreenScene: Photography and Weaving.  The quality of this photo is obviously incredible quality because it was taken with my visiting friend, Mark Cowie’s (amazing film/music producer from Wisconsin) camera.  A Canon 7d.  I thought the Rebel Xsi that I did all Emma’s Model shots with was a good camera, but I hadn’t seen the light yet!  This things takes immaculate shots.  Here is one of our lovely friend Olive weaving a hair wrap into Emma’s hair.  She is a weave master!  She does great custom work too so get ahold of me for any hair wrap/headband/wristband orders (or just come to art night:)    check it….

Here’s a sweet shot I took of my Close friend and spiritual brother, Jed, in front of my exploding sugar snap peas.

SO these are just a few examples of what is happening over here!  If you are inspired, take action! I’m finding my path right now is grouping together artists and providing comfortable space and energy for them to work and develop their styles craft.  I said last week that every two ingredients make a different potion, and that defines me bringing together this large network of artists I’ve met and am still meeting here in Portland, so they can collaborate.  It’s a beautiful thing and it can’t stop, wont stop!

If anyone out there is interested in the work of any artist in these photos, contact me, because it doesn’t matter if your near or far from the Northwest, we can share this love all over the world and cosmos beyond!  If you are in SE Portland or ever passing through on a Wednesday, find yourself near Ladd’s Addition (our hood) and stop into the Greenscene around 7ish to have fun and join this movement!   There is so much more I could share and say but I have to get out and water my plant before it starts to sizzle on this near 100 degree July day in 2010!

Untill next time, Love and Vibe, Best, P.evans :)

Sunshine soon come, but bright colors always stay with me.

Hello world.  Here we are on June 2nd, 2010.  Life is gorgeous and love is beautiful.  The and grey clouds have sustained for about 3 weeks straight now here in Portland.  It is WORTH it!  The slow mist like rain soaks in nice and slow and all plants and trees are loads more, green and healthy in return.

I spend my days relaxing and creating.  Art Media (nice art supply store downtown)  has had fancy golden brand acrylics and super gnarly rad fancified brushes at 40% off for a couple weeks, I’ve been stocking up and playing with tons of new color blends and the difference you get with nice quality acrylic paint and better brushes is incredible!  slowly building my gallery up, but have a handful of commissioned pieces to finish too.  As the art flows onto canvas and the days tumble by with bits, pieces and chunks of time and inspiration to paint.  Each masterpiece comes into it’s own life form and eventually chooses itself,  with who and where to be.

(I painted this for my amazing friend Liz, here’s Liz herself with her baby before it got a clear sealant coat on the acrylic I did)  She was overly stoked and I learned that surfboards are awesome canvases!

I go into painting (and recording aswell)  with very minimal structure of what I’m aiming for, other than a nice coat of shiny white gesso (or a metronome) first.  It comes without boundaries from the strands of the brushes and the tips of my fingers as I go.  My eyes do color theory from pigment to pigment as I glide and slide along through shapes, figures and tones.  I guess you could say its a bit of zen, or “be here now” (buddhist mentality) art as I go with the flow and stay in the moment.  The less thinking and judgment upon whats coming out, the better and more enjoyable.  The sweetest and most interesting thing is that after all this freestyle flow on canvas/paper/wood etc.,  an individuality takes place, lifeforms develop, and feeling and emotion mixes together through the colors and texture to communicate a variety of provocative or simple messages/inspirations/and/or/feelings to me and whoever is watching.

I’m never weary of  being constantly charmed from the fact that anyone can do this (create art).    Basically art in all forms is stellar like galaxies because it is so complex, yet so simple at the same time.  Simple in that the only thing one can do in the prescence of art forms or creativity is have a reaction or pay attention.  This reaction usualy being a positive and/or inspired reaction will be as is and continue to appreciate, or take what one is seeing/hearing/feeling from the art and imitate/create/make their own.  It seems simple and minimal to ponder this, but it’s true.  It keeps the world turning and our senses tickled, sedated and tantalized, so sit back and enjoy and help spread the love of music, art and creative expression amongst the world!

Here are a couple canvases that are moving along in a colorful direction and loving their home in my new upstairs light filled studio!   Far from done but developing character:)

I’ve gotta get back to these skateboard decks I’m priming up.  More photos soon!  Pray for SUN in northwest everyone from afar too~  thanks:)     –Peace and Vibe–P.evanz

ps, I’m listening to Pretty Lights right now,  check him out if you like grooves….

Lights, Canons, Nikons and Glamour

Hello world!   Working our way through a long and exciting week of photo shoots, were picking through all the fantastic shots we gathered and refining our eyes to focus in on quality imagery digital camera.  Let’s go thru a gallery of some choice shots, beggining with a flick of the photographer, your’s truly, below….I not only got Emma in front of the Canon for glamour shots, but brought up my close friend and housemate, Christopher Burns up for a session.  He turned out to be quite photogenic and charismatically sporatic through the aperture….. check it:Here’ another….A bit of rock n roll?  These start to get good, white, and black….Got Cash?..

I love Ideas..  Like props.  I scoured all 4 stories of my house looking for random props to hand whoever may be in front of the camera.  It breaks the ice for someone who might be a bit camera shy and just makes everything more fun and dynamic during the shoot.  How about ping pong balls?…  check it:

Two of my amazing housemates are Liz and Andrew.  Liz from Yonkers, NY and Andrew from Vancouver, B.C. have beeen living in New Zealand for the last couple years, surfing and rock climbing.  They are currently almost finished converting their sweet 4 wheel drive silver toyota van into a livable surf mobile equipped with hand made curtains, a mini stove, and a swet wooden bed frame with custom cut foam mattress that Andrew made.  They will leave June 1st to live in the van and surf and explore all up and down the West coast from canada to South America.

Here’s Andrew: Camera shy at first but easily stoked to show of his board, and just himself…  half Australian and half Canadian: check itAustralian for Surfing…Here’s some serious shots of Emma for portfolio styles.  10 foot legs..check it:So here’s a photo taken by our amazing friend Kristen  She is definetly pro at makeup and photography, especially with her sweet Nikon SLR camera . Notice the difference from the canon to the Nikon, color and light changes so much!  check it:So…  Let me know what you think, any one notice anything? Nikon or Canon? or both?

Bottom line: photography and good lighting is super fun and this is just the beggining!  Gotta get back to this canvas im painting Colors and shapes,  yea.

Peace and Vibe—PEvans.

Creative Flow

Whatup world! or, hello Ladies, Gents, girls and boys. It’s Pevans (Peter I Evans) here on screen directly to your eyes, transmitting bits and pieces of my ideas, color theory, images, and lifestyle. Welcome to Pevan.

Its Sunny, dry with light wind and 77 degrees (f) here in Portland, OR, USA. In the midst of painting projects and brainstorming, but I think I’ll take a mental pitstop and head down to Saturday Market. It’s too nice out to not get on my wheels and pedal my baby down across the massive and vintage Hawthorne bridge, then along the waterfront of the Willamette rive that snakes through downtown PDX. The market is bustling with crazy and amazing artisans of all types displaying their paintings, photos, metal and wood works, and so much more. Breakdancers, Musicians, and face and body painted performers dot the swarm of art and love, humans and dogs aswell, right along this huge river that feeds the columbia river, which feeds the Pacific a couple hours to the west.
People watching is my favorite activity to be honest. This town is insane, filled with all shapes, sizes, colors, and energies. Much to feast your eyes on, male or female! heehee.
38,000 20 somethings moved to POrtland in 2008 and its growing. The scene is a dancing orb of young creatives and wise humans of all ages and types ready to get green, relax, and have fun, oh and party a bit..
I’ll head down in a bit and take some pics for yall to check out.
A bit about myself. I’m an artist. I freestlye live but hold it down solid. I have a big and strong network of friends (my family) (and blood family aswell) I do my own thing and I always have. My creativity and Ideas are going in a shimmering and fabulous direction aimed to entertain inspire and educate. Guitars, Drums, Keys, Bass and vocals often tantalize my soul aswell. I live in a huge green mansion full of 8 boys and girls that are artists, musicians, explorers, teachers and lovers with volumes of wisdom.
You’ll learn much more as these entries continue but for now I’ll include a few pics of recent paintings I’ve created and maybe a couple more for fun.
CHeck back later for Saturday market pics from my day. The iPhone enables me to document anything and everything, so get ready for fun if your curious and or interested in my style. PEace and vibe Pevanz. (I’m jamming Beastie Boys for the first time in a grip!!)

I paint faces too.
